Food Service Guidelines

The RSU 40 Food Service Program discourages the practice of charging school meals for students. If parents cannot afford to pay for their child’s meals, they should complete the Free and Reduced Meal application. Applications are available at each school office, the Superintendent’s Office, and on the district website at

Monthly school lunch menus are on each school’s webpage.

Parents of full-pay and reduced-pay meal students, pre-kindergarten through grade six, are encouraged to send in money each Monday for the meals they expect to purchase for the week. Monthly prepayments are also accepted. All prepayments will be posted to the appropriate child’s account and will be “spent down” when meals are purchased. Students in grades 7 through 12 can add money to their own account, have parents add money to their account or have money in hand to pay for meals and a-la-carte purchases.

School lunch account balances can be monitored through and RSU 40 utilizes the School Messenger automated communication system to report low or negative account balances twice a week.

Adults will not be permitted to charge food.

No charging A-La-Carte items.

Please Note:  Children who receive free meals must take the entire meal in order for it to be free under State guidelines. If the child takes only a milk, or a separate a-la-carte item (where available), they will be charged for those items.
